Model changes in edit mode

Edit mode is where structural modeling becomes fast.

Instead of opening many forms, you can drag and drop structure changes in Charts and Matrix, then apply them together through the change tray.

Where edit mode is available

  • Charts: /charts (or scenario/snapshot equivalent)
  • Matrix: /matrix (or scenario/snapshot equivalent)

Edit mode is only available in editable contexts.

If you are in a read-only snapshot, archived scenario, or otherwise locked context, View mode remains available but editing controls are hidden.

Core edit workflow

  1. Switch from View to Edit.
  2. Drag teams/actors/org units to valid targets.
  3. Optionally adjust allocation via context actions.
  4. Review pending commands in the tray.
  5. Apply changes.

Orgonaut batches these changes so you can reason about a set of edits before committing them.

High-value operations

  • Reparent a team under a different department
  • Move contributors between org units
  • Send items to the unassigned bucket intentionally
  • Rebalance allocations for shared roles
  • Reclassify team structure in matrix workflows

Multi-select and speed patterns

Use shift-based multi-selection where available to move several items in one pass.

For large restructures, apply changes in thematic batches (for example, one department at a time) so review remains clean.

Guardrails

  • invalid targets are rejected
  • read-only contexts block edit actions
  • changes are explicit in tray/audit history

This prevents accidental silent mutations and makes scenario reviews more trustworthy.

After applying

Always run a short validation pass:

  • charts hierarchy shape looks correct
  • matrix distribution matches intent
  • primary placements still make sense for key actors
  • delta highlights match what you expected to change
