Promote to Live

Promotion is the step where approved scenario changes become your Live state.

Treat promotion as a controlled release, not a routine click. When you promote a scenario, Orgonaut performs a transformative archival process to ensure your organizational history remains auditable.

What happens during promotion

Promotion is not a simple data overwrite. To maintain a perfect audit trail, Orgonaut performs the following actions:

  • Archive current Live state: Your existing Live state is captured as a Baseline Snapshot. This preserves exactly how the organization looked before the change.
  • Apply scenario changes: The structure, placements, and metadata from your scenario are applied to the Live state.
  • Archive promoted scenario: The scenario itself is locked and converted into an Applied Scenario. This remains as a read-only record of what was approved.

This process ensures you can always look back at what was intended (Applied Scenario) and what was replaced (Baseline Snapshot).

Before you promote

Complete this checklist first:

  • Scenario scope is clear and approved.
  • Structural edits have been reviewed by relevant owners.
  • Cost and velocity deltas have been validated.
  • Critical reports and exports have been reviewed.
  • Stakeholders understand what will change in Live.

Promotion workflow

  1. Open the scenario you intend to promote.
  2. Review summary metrics and key deltas one last time.
  3. Confirm no unresolved data quality issues remain.
  4. Trigger Promote to Live.
  5. Confirm the action in the promotion modal, acknowledging that it will archive the current Live state.
  6. Verify Live reflects expected structure and rollups.

What to verify after promotion

Focus on outcome checks, not only record counts:

  • Live state: Team and department hierarchy is correct in the Live view.
  • Audit trail: A new Baseline Snapshot exists in the snapshot history.
  • Applied record: The scenario now appears as an Applied Scenario and is read-only.
  • Data integrity: Primary placements are intact for key actors and cost rollups align with expectations.

Promotion governance tips

  • Promote from one scenario at a time.
  • Keep scenario names explicit (for example, Q2-platform-realignment).
  • Use snapshots for reference points before major promotions.
  • Capture rationale in your internal change log.

If results are not as expected

  1. Pause additional structural edits in Live.
  2. Compare Live against the promoted scenario.
  3. Review activity log entries around the promotion window.
  4. Use lineage and snapshots to understand state transitions.
  5. Decide whether to correct in Live or model a follow-up scenario.

Common mistakes

  • Promoting before placement cleanup is complete.
  • Treating scenario deltas as final without stakeholder review.
  • Promoting multiple overlapping scenarios too quickly.
  • Misinterpreting Live View totals as final before promotion tasks complete.
