Charts overview

Charts gives you a hierarchical view of your organisation model.

Charts and Matrix are grouped beneath one sky-blue Visualise badge in the main navigation, marking them as two complementary ways to explore the organisation visually.

Use it when you need to inspect reporting structure, identify placement anomalies, or communicate proposed structural changes.

Where to open charts

  • Live Baseline: /charts
  • Scenario context: scenario-prefixed charts route
  • Snapshot context: snapshot-prefixed charts route (read-only)

What charts shows

Charts renders:

  • company/department/team hierarchy nodes
  • actor cards (people, agents, robots) where relevant
  • rollup context and visual structure depth
  • unassigned bucket node for unplaced items

Toolbar controls

Charts includes practical controls for day-to-day analysis:

  • search
  • root org unit selector
  • type/kind filters
  • primary-only toggle
  • show-costs toggle
  • zoom in/out/reset
  • layout mode (top-down, left-right, radial)
  • PNG export

Use root selection plus filters to isolate one branch quickly without losing context.

Large organisations

When people, agents, or robots are switched on for the whole organisation and more than 300 of them are placed, Charts shows the department and team structure only, with a notice explaining why. Choose a department or team in the root selector, or search, to see that branch with its members. This keeps a 1,000-person organisation readable instead of drawing every card at once.

Context awareness

Charts respects current context label and editability:

  • Live Baseline: editable
  • active scenario: editable unless scenario is read-only
  • snapshot/archive: read-only

In read-only contexts, edit controls are hidden, but navigation and analysis still work.

Best-use workflow

  1. Start with top-level hierarchy check.
  2. Narrow with root + filters.
  3. Inspect unassigned and unexpected node density.
  4. Switch to edit mode (if available) for modeling changes.
  5. Export a PNG for stakeholder communication.

Common mistakes

  • treating charts as only a picture instead of a modeling surface
  • skipping root/filter narrowing on large orgs
  • interpreting stale placement issues without checking scenario context
