Charts edit mode (drag and drop)
Charts edit mode is optimized for structural modeling.
You can move units and contributors visually, batch changes in the tray, and apply them as a deliberate set.
Before you begin
Edit mode is available only when the current context is mutable:
- live baseline
- active editable scenario
It is not available in archived/snapshot read-only contexts.
Core controls
In edit mode you can use:
- View/Edit toggle
- drag-and-drop between valid targets
- unassigned drop bin
- layout picker (top-down, left-right, radial)
- create team / create department shortcuts
- change tray with apply workflow
Typical drag-and-drop operations
- move team between departments
- move org unit under a different parent
- move person/agent/robot between units
- move to unassigned when intentionally removing active placement
You can multi-select (including shift patterns) to speed larger reorganizations.
Allocation adjustments
For placements, use available allocation controls (context actions/tray) to update allocation percentages rather than creating duplicate structural moves.
Apply flow
- Drag to stage changes.
- Review commands in tray.
- Apply.
- Re-check charts and matrix.
This keeps structural changes auditable and easier to reason about than ad-hoc manual edits.
Guardrails and safety
- invalid drop targets are rejected
- read-only contexts block edits
- tray ensures explicit commit boundary before persistence
Practical tips
- model in small thematic batches
- apply and validate after each batch
- verify primary placements for key actors after big moves
